Unarmored drawing

 "You are deceived"

The human form is drawn with a thin single line contour drawing with a bold red anatomical mouth with marker.
I chose to leave the drawing on the drawing board because I used it as a cutting mat and I love having the package box texture as a background color.
(Unintendedly, the guy looks at my name)

The mouth plays a big role in my event because what we said doesn't match with how we feel.

Mood Band

Alexander and I used the minimum amount of color possible in the format and background. Instead, emphasizing the color on the bands.

Product Statment

Alexander and I designed a headband, called the Mood Band, that hides and expresses one's emotions in order for them to project a certain demeanor or maintain privacy within their lives.
The Mood Band has a wide range of uses. For example, if a mother is having difficulty what her baby needs when he or she is acting up or hysterical crying, the mother could most definitely make use of our product in that she could place the Mood Band on the baby's head and press the 'Express button', and find out what her baby needs in that moment. Another example would be when one is having a particularly horrible day, whether it be work related, relationship related, etc. and then have to retain one's composure in a specific situation, the Mood Band would help the consumer accomplish their retainment of emotions.
The Mood Band can Express just as well as Hide one's emotions from the outer, judgmental world we all know too well. It is capable of expressing your emotions by displaying what you're feeling or your current state of mind on a 1 inch LED screen that runs across the front of the headband. The band comes in two different styles and sizes. One being 24x2 inches, and the other being 1/2x24 inches. The Headbands come in different color-ways, one geared towards men and one geared towards women; however, Alexander and I believe it is a unisex piece, and quite stylish as well. The scale of the LED screen will vary amongst the two size headbands, one being considerably smaller than the other in order for it to fit on the 1/2 in. width.

The Mood Band specifically monitors and classifies your emotions by observing body language and vibrations  from your brain. The headband then compiles all the gathered information and determines what you are feeling, and then either displays it for people to see or one can press the 'Hide Button' and the band will release vibrations and magnetic waves in order to relax the facial muscles making it so that the consumer show any emotions through facial gestures and therefore people will not be able to have any insight in to what you're feeling.
The Mood Band will ideally be constructed out of resin and a mesh like padding. There would be a 1/4 inch cushion between two layers of thin resin, one layer being on either side of the resin.
Alexander and I decided to design and manufacture this product in in order for people to be capable of having more control over their display and projection of emotions and feelings. We have noticed that more and more people in today's society cannot fully express how they are feeling when asked, "how are you?", or "what's up?". We feel that these types of individuals should be able to control how they communicate their feelings and emotions to others as well as more control in the choice on whether to display them or not.
We hope you find our product just as interesting as we do !

design review

CELINE
"Coachella"
Spring 2011 collection

What I find inspiring in this design is that the pattern is symmetrical on the shirt as well as the pants. In term of color, the palette of this dress goes well with the collection "spring."
Looks like something that a non-boring office woman would wear to work.

SKETCH FROM THE MET
The armors that inspired me specifically is the Japanese armors for their repetitively precise sewing.

SURGICAL GOWN
A group of doctors and nurses wearing surgical gown passed me when I was on my way to class in a usual weekday morning. That got me thinking about the gown and the fashion project we were working on. I took the hospital gown which is worn by sick people and transformed the simple, nothing fancy, and almost boring dress into something that no longer look like a dress a sick person would wear by overloading geometric shapes.
"Do I look fine now?"
meaning even if you are not feeling well, the pattern would still cover up the sickness.

PAPER STUDIES
Before deciding what will go on the dress form, we were told to experiment with paper; folding, sewing, cutting, crumbling, or tearing. Cutting and sewing spoke to me most after experimenting for a while.

Do I look fine now?

Intention:
The dress you see above is initially came from the patient hospital gown (obviously, you're not fine if you wear a sick person gown). I make use of their simple and one solid color, nothing fancy, yet I still find the beauty in its form. Using this form, I covered the gown with an overwhelming amount of repetitive pattern and broke the simplicity boundary at the back side of the gown by having an opened area.

Impossible Conversation

In spring, I was asked to make a book about that one person who encouraged and influenced me as an artist.Friday Kahlo was my subject and of course she would be someone whom i most like to have a dialogue with.
Here are some pages from my book:
screen print template
Apart from her bravery through her work, the striking, fearless and full eyebrows undoubtedly make her look even stronger.

magazine collage and ink pen
" I paint myself because I am so often so alone and I am the subject I know best." If you have ever seen any of her work, they clearly portray a prominent events of her life.

Kahlo's words and graphite drawing in the background
She is so right.

If the impossible becomes possible, I wish us to take turn and draw each other a portrait.

The Met

Sneak shots of quick sketches from my sketchbook.
Fashion sketches

What I find  most interesting in The Met is their Islamic rooms.
The pattern is just breath-taking that makes me want to paint my future house with those pattern.
